Mount Bernay is a mountain in the Galilee, located near the Sea of Galilee, south of Tiberias.
The mountain height is about 190 meters above sea level.
On the mountain were the remains of a Byzantine church and a mosque from the 8th century CE.
La Herod Antips was in Tiberias a magnificent palace, which may be the Armona of Princess Bernay, whom Joseph Ben of Matthew said in his writings, hence the name of the Mountain " the Berniki " River.
During the Byzantine period, in the sixth century, it was built on the eastern summit of the Temple Mount, possibly on the Aroma of Antips.
The church was a magnificent building whose area was approximately 1,400 mg/quot;r.
In the heart of the church there was a monolithic stone that was used as a sacred fair, and was apparently associated with the story of the activity of Jesus in the Sea of Galilee area.
Emperor Justinian first built a wall, reaching from Tiberias to the west summit of the mountain, and ended in two towers that were 15 meters tall and each of their bodies 7.5 meters long.
In the earthquake of the Earth in 749 known as a sound noise destroyed the buildings on the mountain, including the church, but it was re-opened during the Early Muslim period, during the eighth century and served as a church until after the Battle of the Heinteen rays, in which the Crusaders and their kingdom were worshipped in the Galilee of its sword.
After the destruction of the church, the place has been built for many years.
In 1990, Archaeologist Care Hirschfeld began digging in excavations instead.
There were no remnants of Bernay’s palace, but the Byzantine church was exposed, and the remnants of the wall and the tower.
The foundation that exists for Israel broke out through Tiberias from Tiberias to the mountain.
In the shadow of the mountain, it was discovered by archaeologists Beware Hirschfeld and Joseph Stephansky a Roman theater, with about 6,000-5,000 places.
The municipality of Tiberias plans to transform the amphitheater into a concert center and combine the Oz Barkowitz Park, a archaeological park in Tiberias, which includes archaeological artifacts from the Roman era.
Near the church another structure was exposed, and the hypothesis was that it was used as a market during the Byzantine period of the city.
In 2009, the archaeologist Katya Zitrin-Sylaverman discovered from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem that the building was used as a mosque, and the church and mosque may have acted at the same time, with each serving its community.
Similar mosques from the same period were discovered in Damascus and in the city of Gerschen.
